Examinations: Auto Refraction

Auto Refraction is a way to measure your prescription without your subjective input – i.e., no questions asked! All you have to do is look at the auto refractor for ten seconds. (Compare with Digital Refraction)

How does it work?

The technician holds up the auto refractor to your eye, you stare at a picture target, and ten seconds later your eye is scanned! Light will travel through your eye and bounce back into the auto refractor.

We use this as a starting point for digital refraction if you are a new patient. We can also use it as a complement or sometimes as the sole refraction for children or the elderly who are either unwilling or unable to participate in a digital refraction.
